1 INT. HOSPITAL CORRIDOR - DAWN 

              A dimly lit hallway in the Washington State Hospital at
              Granite Heights.

              Senior NURSE MILLER (50ish) and NURSE LISA HOLLINGER (24)
              speak softly.  The pretty young Nurse is intelligent and
              earnest.

                                  NURSE MILLER
                        Finished your rounds, Lisa?

                                  LISA
                        Yes Mrs. Miller.  I thought I'd
                        sit with Janice before breakfast.

              Miller touches Lisa's arm.

                                  NURSE MILLER
                        Lisa, you've done a splendid job
                        here at the State since you've
                        come. I want to warn you about
                        investing too much, emotionally.
                        It's for your own good, dear.

              The Women contemplate Janice's room door.

                                  NURSE MILLER
                               (continuing)

                                  LISA
                        Yes Ma'am.

                                  NURSE MILLER
                        A terrible waste.  It was just
                        about this time a year ago.

                                  LISA
                        One year, Mrs. Miller, to the day.

              Nurse Miller continues down the hallway.  Lisa watches her
              go, then moves toward the door.
 

            2 INT. JANICE'S HOSPITAL ROOM - DAWN 

              JANICE LASKER (35ish) lies unresponsive, illuminated by a
              bedside lamp.  Tubes and wires snake away to machines and
              bottles.

              Lisa contemplates the frail form of the once beautiful Woman.

              Lisa steps into the Bathroom.
 

            3 INT. HOSPITAL BATHROOM - DAWN 

              Lisa turns on the sink tap.  She grabs a stainless wash basin
              from the shelf and begins to fill it.

              FAINT muffled FEMALE humming and a CHILD'S laughter become
              audible.  The Voices are ethereal, they have no source.  Lisa
              is preoccupied, oblivious.

              The BATHROOM door, off balance on it's hinges, closes slowly
              behind her.  Hanging on the inside of the door is a MIRROR.
              Lisa's backside is revealed in the reflection.

              Lisa turns, now a foot away from the Mirror.  She studies her
              reflection, leans and exhales on the glass.  Mist blurs her
              image.
 

            4 INT. JANICE'S HOSPITAL ROOM - DAWN 

              Lisa places the basin on the bedside table beside a framed
              PHOTO of Janice in a loving embrace with a SMALL BOY.

              Lisa twists the frame under the bedside lamp. The engraving
              is highlighted. JANICE & JEREMY - 1999

              A low Rumble begins.  Small concentric rings form in the wash
              basin.  The water becomes more agitated.  A SMALL TREMOR.

              Lisa pulls a PILLOW from the bedside cabinet.  She hovers
              over the Woman while she ponders.  Lisa leans and kisses
              Janice.

                                  LISA
                        Sleep well my dear Janice.

              A hair brush on the dresser begins to vibrate.  The Rumble is
              louder.

                                  WOMAN'S VOICE
                               (ethereal, agitated)
                        Jeremy, come here!

              Steeling herself, Lisa lifts the Pillow and covers Janice's
              face.

              Janice moans, low primal noises emanate deep from within her
              body.

              Lisa pulls the Pillow away.

                                  LISA
                        Janice?

              Janice's eyeballs dance in their sockets.  She struggles to
              raise her head.  Her eyelids open and she stares with
              unfocused eyes toward the bathroom.  Lisa turns.

              Janice's IV sways, the picture falls flat.  The hair brush
              vibrates on the dresser.

                                  WOMAN'S VOICE
                               (louder)
                        Jeremy, now!

              Lisa searches for the sounds as she covers Janice
              protectively with her body.

              Other cries are now heard within the HOSPITAL, from
              frightened PERSONNEL and PATIENTS.

              The Child's Voice begins crying.

              With a crack the small Earthquake stops.  The ripples in the
              basin calm. The hospital Voices calm and fade.

              Lisa walks toward the Bathroom, directed by Janice's stare.
              She slowly pushes open the door.

              The muffled, comforting Voice of the Woman and the sobbing
              Child overwhelm Lisa as she passes through the doorway.
 

            5 INT. HOSPITAL BATHROOM INTERCUT WITH HOSPITAL ROOM - 
              DAWN

              A mouthwash bottle, tipped on its side, drains.  Lisa is
              puzzled.  Where are the Voices coming from?  She listens.

              The door swings shut again.  She turns to the Mirror.  There
              is NO REFLECTION!  There are only clothes hanging on rack.

              Janice's breathing is erratic, shallow.  Her eyeslids blink
              incessantly.

              Lisa touches the (Mirror) glass.  Her hand goes right through
              the opening.  The Voices become CLEAR as if she has punctured
              some kind of sound barrier.

                                  WOMAN'S VOICE
                        It's OK my darling.  It's over,
                        don't cry, don't cry.

              Lisa pulls her hand back.  The Voices are muffled again.

              Lisa puts her hand through once more.  She draws back the
              clothing revealing a walk-in closet.  Light streams from
              under the door at the other end.

              Lisa hikes up her uniform.

                                  LISA
                        Janice, I'll be right back.

              Lisa steps through the PORTAL.

              END TEASER

                                    ACT ONE
 

            6 INT. CLOSET - DAWN 

              Lisa pushes past the hanging clothes toward the door.  She
              glances back at the Hospital Bathroom looming on the other
              side of the Portal.

              Lisa cracks the closet door.

                                  CONTROL VOICE
                        The will to live, burns like the
                        sun at the core of every human
                        being.
 

            7 INT. JANICE'S BEDROOM INTERCUT WITH CLOSET - DAWN 

              Janice, alive and vibrant as in the photo, comforts her Son,
              JEREMY (3).  She holds out a small stuffed bear.
 

                                  CONTROL VOICE
                               (continued)
                        What primal forces do we posses,
                        innate, mysterious powers, ready
                        to be unleashed in our time of
                        need?  Strong enough to preserve
                        that light, shinning so brightly
                        within us all.

                                  LISA
                               (sotto)
                        Janice!

                                  JANICE
                        Brown bear's not crying.  See.
                        He's not afraid any more.
                               (Bear voice)
                        Why are you crying Jeremy?

              Jeremy brightens.  He laughs.

                                  JANICE
                               (continuing; Bear
                                voice)
                        Jeremy?  Oh, would you like to
                        play with me?

              The low Rumbling begins again.  Janice senses it.  Jeremy
              starts.  Lisa freezes.

              Janice grabs Jeremy and runs to the hall doorway.  She braces
              herself in the doorframe, sheltering the boy.

              Another small Tremor.

              Jeremy sees his Bear on the bed.  He struggles and breaks
              free.

                                  JEREMY
                        I want brown bear!

                                  JANICE
                        Jeremy, no!
 

            8 INT. EMILY BARKER'S PARLOUR - DAWN 

              The Tremor is happening here too!  Various articles are
              rattling in the Victorian furnished room.

              Birds in ornate Cages throughout the room, chatter away.

              EMILY BARKER, 70ish, is sitting in a large chair in the
              middle of the room.  She wears black sunglasses.  A white
              cane rest on the chair arm.

              Standing beside her is her Husband, NEVILLE, 70ish.  He is
              wringing out a wash rag and applying it to Emily's forehead.

              On the ottoman in front of Emily sits DOCTOR WILLIAM DUFFY,
              (28).  He's trim and intelligent, a chino's and sport shirt
              kind of guy.  He observes the goings on nervously.

              In the corner the grandfather clock strikes the quarter hour-
              6:45.

              Will notes the time.

                                  WILL
                        Don't you think we should be
                        getting out of here?

              Neville seems unconcerned as he surveys the commotion.

                                  EMILY
                        This isn't it, dear boy. Remember,
                        shaken, not stirred this morning.

                                  NEVILLE
                        Emily knows.  She'll tell us.

                                  EMILY
                        I know my pains Will.
 

            9 INT. JANICE'S CLOSET INTERCUT WITH BEDROOM - DAWN 

              Lisa reacts to the Tremor.

              The Bathroom on the otherside of the Portal is blurring.
              Lisa's reflection, in the glass is becoming clearer.

              Lisa staggers, making her way back toward the Portal.

              With a final crack the Earthquake stops.

              The Portal has vanished, now just the Mirror hangs on the
              closet wall.  Lisa touches the glass and sees only her
              Reflection.

              A shoe box topples from the shelf, startling Lisa.

              Jeremy and Janice, now back on the bed, react to the noise.
              Jeremy scoots to the closet door.

                                  JANICE
                        Jeremy!

              Jeremy opens the door.

              Lisa scrambles behind the hanging clothes.

              Jeremy peers in.

                                  JANICE
                               (continuing)
                        Come on you.

              Janice scoops up the Boy and shuts the closet door.

              Lisa listens.  She cracks the door.  The bedroom is empty.
              She crosses to the hallway door.  The ID CARD and pens around
              her neck rattle.  Lisa unclips and shoves them in her pocket.
 

           10 INT. HALLWAY - MORNING 

              Lisa sneaks to the top of the stairs.  The house is large and
              elegant.  She hears the TV on downstairs.

                                  ANNOUNCER
                        ...the greater Seattle area just
                        minutes ago at about quarter to
                        seven.  Although information is
                        sketchy, so far no major damage
                        has been reported.

              Lisa creeps down the stairs.

                                  ANNOUNCER
                               (continuing)
                        Locals as far away as Vancouver
                        and Spokane have reported the
                        tremors.  We now have a Channel 5
                        exclusive, going live to April
                        Cunningham.
 

           11 INT. KITCHEN INTERCUT WITH FOYER - MORNING 

              Lisa peeks into the kitchen.  Jeremy is rolling a toy truck
              on the floor.  Janice is glued to the TV, her back to Lisa.

                                  APRIL CUNNINGHAM
                        Thanks Bill.  We're here at
                        Washington State University
                        speaking with Doctor Terrance
                        Duffy...

              Jeremy is rattling his truck.

                                  JANICE
                        Shh! Jeremy!

                                  APRIL CUNNINGHAM
                        ...the head of the Seismic Studies
                        Department and advisor to the
                        Governor.

              On the screen is DOCTOR TERRANCE DUFFY, 50ish.  He's trim,
              intelligent and speaks with an English accent.
 

           12 INT. EMILY BARKER'S PARLOUR - DAWN 

              Will is kneeling in front of the TV.

                                  TERRANCE
                        April, what we've experienced this
                        morning have been relatively light
                        tremors, in the magnitude of 3 on
                        the Richter scale.

              Emily is not impressed.

                                  EMILY
                        Stuffed shirt.

              Will smirks back at Emily.

                                  APRIL CUNNINGHAM
                        Why didn't we have any advanced
                        warning, Doctor Duffy?

               Emily gestures in earnest in Will's direction.

                           EMILY                         TERRANCE
                   It's today, Will.  Five       Earthquake prediction is in
                   o'clock today.  Percival's    it's infancy.  To date
                   Island!  I know it!           we've not be able...
 

                                  APRIL CUNNINGHAM
                        Do you give any credence to the
                        Sensitives, people who claim they
                        can...

                                  TERRANCE
                        Based on the warnings of a few
                        exicitable...I could hardly
                        recommend the evacuation of a
                        major urban center.

              Will considers Emily.
 

           13 INT. JANICE'S KITCHEN INTERCUT WITH FOYER - MORNING 

                                  TERRANCE
                        April, let's just say their claims
                        are anecdotal at best, at worst...

              The phone rings.  Janice turns down the TV volume.  She picks
              up the receiver and listens for a beat.  She slams it down.

              Lisa peeks around again.  Janice has her back to Lisa.

              The phone rings once more.  Janice grabs it.

                                  JANICE
                        Paul.  You're not to call here.
                        No, he's fine.  Yes, our house is
                        fine.  I'm fine too, thanks for
                        asking!    You didn't feel
                        anything, why does that not
                        surprise me...

              Lisa slips past the doorway.

              Jeremy sees Lisa.  He smiles.  Jeremy gets up and walks
              through the doorway.

                                  JANICE
                               (continuing)
                        I was not!  No, no.  You can pick
                        him up this afternoon.  At
                        five...Well, just make sure he
                        keeps his coat on.
 

           14 INT. FOYER INTERCUT WITH KITCHEN - MORNING 

              Lisa is out the front door.  Jeremy runs up to the glass
              storm door.

                                  JANICE
                               (turning)
                        Jeremy.

              Janice walks into the foyer.  She goes to the door.

                                  JANICE
                               (continuing)
                        What's wrong baby?

                                  JEREMY
                               (pointing)
                        There's a Lady!

              Lisa has reached the curb.  She turns back to the house.

              Janice peers out at Lisa.  Janice is puzzled.

                                  JANICE
                        Yes, there is a lady.

              She picks up her Son and opens the door.

                                  JANICE
                               (continuing; calling)
                        Can I help you?
 

           15 EXT. CURBSIDE - MORNING 

              Janice hurries down the drive.

                                  JANICE
                        Are you looking for someone?

              Lisa is confused.  She's trying to keep it together.

              A fire engine, sirens blaring, roars by.  They watch.

                                  JANICE
                               (continuing)
                        It must be the quake.  Did you
                        feel it?

                                  LISA
                        Yes, sort of.  Your son, he's
                        beautiful.

                                  JANICE
                        Oh, thanks.  I hope no one's been
                        hurt.
                               (She ponders)
                        Do I know you?

                                  LISA
                        No.

                                  JANICE
                        Well, I'm going to make him some
                        breakfast.

              Janice turns and walks back up the drive.

                                  LISA
                               (sotto)
                        Good bye Janice.
 

           16 INT. CITY BUS - MORNING 

              A police car speeds by.  Lisa picks up a newspaper on the
              seat beside her.  She sees the date.  May 3rd, 1999.  She
              stares, incredulous.
 

           17 EXT. STATE UNIVERSITY - MORNING 

              Lisa passes TV NEWS TRUCKS parked on the street.  A CREW is
              doing a report in front of the sign-  Washington State
              University Seismic Studies Department.

                                  TV REMOTE ANNOUNCER
                        ...and officials here at the
                        University's Seismic Studies
                        Department will be shortly
                        advising the Governor...

              Lisa enters the Building.
 

           18 INT. SEISMIC STUDIES RECEPTION - MORNING 

              The RECEPTIONIST is busy with a REPORTER.  Another TV CREW is
              taping a report.

              Lisa scans the directory.

              Will enters.  He sees the Receptionist and Reporter and
              stops, not wanting to get into the middle of it.  He gets a
              nod from the Receptionist.

              He turns and spies Lisa at the stairway door.  As a
              TECHNICIAN comes out Lisa checks to make sure she's
              unnoticed.  She slips past the closing door.
 

           19 INT. STAIRWELL - MORNING 

              Lisa makes her way up the stairs.

              Will enters.  He looks up to see Lisa climbing higher.  He
              starts up, taking the stairs two at a time.

              Lisa hears the footsteps behind her and moves faster.

              Will is gaining.

                                  WILL
                               (calling)
                        Can I help you Miss?

              Lisa is at the 3rd floor door.   She rattles the handle but
              the door is locked.

              Will arrives on the landing.

                                  WILL
                               (continuing)
                        I think you'll find it's locked.

              Lisa is caught flatfooted.

                                  LISA
                        I'm late.  I have an appointment
                        with Doctor Duffy.

              Will is straight faced.  He can't help notice Lisa is pretty.

                                  WILL
                        What do you want to see Doctor
                        Duffy about?

                                  LISA
                        That's between us.

              Will pulls his wallet from his hip pocket and flips it open.

                                  WILL
                        I'm Doctor Duffy.

              Lisa is confused.

                                  LISA
                        But...

              Will swipes his card in the reader.

                                  WILL
                               (smiling)
                        Don't worry, you must want to see
                        my Dad.

                                    ACT TWO
 

           20 INT. TERRANCE DUFFY'S OFFICE - MORNING 

              Will and Terrance watch Lisa pace around the pristine office
              which reflects the Man of Science, Terrance is.

              As Terrance is all business, Will is easy going.  Both are
              competent and focused in their own ways.

                                  TERRANCE
                        I can't spare you much time, Miss
                        Hollinger.

              Through the partially opened door we see SCIENTISTS and
              TECHNICIANS on earthquake alert in the HIGH TECH facility.

                                  LISA
                        You were on TV...I didn't know
                        where else to go.

                                  WILL
                        Please, Miss.

                                  LISA
                        You're an expert, on earthquakes?

                                  TERRANCE
                        I think the Governor may be
                        inclined to dispute that about
                        now, having provided him with no
                        advanced warning.

              Will smirks.

                                  LISA
                               (finding her way)
                        This is so bizarre.  What if I
                        told you the where the earthquake
                        was.

                                  WILL
                        The hypocenter.

                                  LISA
                        If that's what you call it...and
                        the time.

              Will moves to the desk.

                                  WILL
                        Please...

                                  LISA
                        2655 Craighurst.

                                  WILL
                        Craighurst Avenue?

              Will unrolls and spreads out a map and a seismic readout
              overlay on the desk.

                                  WILL
                               (continuing; bangs on
                                the map)
                        Yes!  Craighurst Avenue and
                        Collins.  That's so close!  She
                        was right, within blocks!

                                  LISA
                        What?

                                  TERRANCE
                        As you may have gathered, Will is
                        one of my more excitable
                        students...

                                  WILL
                        She was so close to predicting the
                        exact spot...

                                  TERRANCE
                        Who happens to take great pleasure
                        in implicating my Seismic Studies
                        Department in his harebrained
                        theories.

                                  LISA
                        Like...

                                  WILL
                        Craighurst Avenue.  Right on!

                                  TERRANCE
                        She's not another one of your
                        damned Sensitives?

                                  LISA
                        Sensitives?

                                  TERRANCE
                        Well Miss Hollinger, you are wrong
                        on both counts.  Anyone could have
                        told you the time, it has already
                        been announced through the media.
                        But the place...

                                  LISA
                        I-was-there, two hours ago.

                                  TERRANCE
                               (smirking)
                        So you've said.  But the focus of
                        the small tremors we felt today,
                        was close to Granite Heights,
                        around the state hospital...

                                  WILL
                        It's about sixty miles...

                                  LISA
                        I know...I know.  I was
                        there...two hours ago.

              Will looks at his Father, then Lisa.  Lisa pulls the ID from
              her pocket.  She puts it on the desk.

              Will leans to look.  He's amazed!  He hands the Card to
              Terrance.  He scans the ID.  He too is incredulous.

                                  LISA
                               (continuing)
                        Next year.

              WE ZOOM into the Card.  It reads - LISA HOLLINGER, EMPLOYED
              FROM APRIL 2000.
 

           21 INT. HIGH TECH SEISMIC LAB - MORNING 

              Lisa looks at the wall clock -10:37.

              Lisa, Will and Terrance are beside a computer console.
              Terrance taps Lisa's ID on the desk, sizing her up.

              Technicians are working at computer consoles, talking on
              phones and carrying on with their work.

              On the SCREEN is a MAP OF THE SEATTLE AREA.  There are
              several radiating circles indicating earthquake activity.

                                  LISA
                        Are these earthquakes happening
                        now?

                                  TERRANCE
                        Yes and no.  These areas are
                        experiencing aftershocks, from
                        today's activity and these are
                        unrelated tremors.

                                  LISA
                        There are so many.

                                  TERRANCE
                        Tremors happen all the time,
                        thousands a day.  They're little
                        adjustments the earth's crust
                        makes between the moving giant
                        plates that form the continents.
                        We measure their activity with
                        seismic sensors that we've set up
                        all along the fault lines in the
                        region.

                                  WILL
                        Sometimes the small tremors...

                                  TERRANCE
                        ...adjustments...

                                  WILL
                        ...aren't enough.  Pressures
                        build, then we get a bigger shake.

                                  TERRANCE
                        We monitor the activity here.
                        What we're trying to understand is
                        how these small tremors can
                        indicate when a serious earthquake
                        is about to happen.  We could save
                        so many lives.

                                  LISA
                        You can't predict?...

                                  TERRANCE
                        No, there's no valid scientific
                        method we have yet discovered, but
                        we work on in earnest.

                                  LISA
                               (to Will)
                        But you predicted this?

                                  WILL
                        Emily did, as she was close.  I've
                        been working on a theory. Hyper
                        Audio-Tactile Earthquake
                        Prediction.

                                  TERRANCE
                        A bit too radical for the
                        Geophysical Survey.

                                  WILL
                        He keeps me around for comic
                        relief.

                                  TERRANCE
                        I keep you around because you're
                        a damned fine researcher.

                                  WILL
                        Paid to run his computers...

                                  LISA
                        Wait, who is Emily?

                                  WILL
                        Three years ago a little old lady
                        came in here looking for help.
                        Sick to her stomach, migraines,
                        pain.  She claimed she could sense
                        when an earthquake was going to
                        occur.  The worse she felt, the
                        more imminent the quake.  She
                        could even predict the area,
                        depending on what part of her
                        anatomy was bothering her.

                                  TERRANCE
                        Rubbish!

                                  WILL
                        I had just received my PH.D.

                                  TERRANCE
                        My Son the Doctor who threw it all
                        away.

                                  WILL
                        Yeah, but that's all changed.
                        Emily, Emily Barker, can hear very
                        low frequency sounds.  She's
                        sensitive to electro- magnetic
                        activity in the earth as well.
                        I've done extensive testing...

                                  TERRANCE
                        Extensive squandering of the
                        University's resources.

                                  WILL
                        And there are other people being
                        affected in similar ways.

                                  TERRANCE
                        You're answering one of his
                        newspaper adverts.  Any
                        unexplained pains, headaches?

                                  LISA
                        No, I...

                                  WILL
                        So now I monitor a small group I
                        call the Sensitives.

                                  LISA
                        Who help you predict earthquakes.

                                  TERRANCE
                        The Sensitives haven't really done
                        that well Son.

                                  WILL
                        Until now.

                                  LISA
                        What's happening to me is real!

              Terrance turns around and picks up a chart.

                                  TERRANCE
                        I think it's time for you to go
                        Miss Hollinger.

              Lisa's miffed at the snub.  She rises and heads for the door.
              Will goes after her.

                                  TERRANCE
                               (continuing; turning
                                back)
                        Miss Hollinger, I don't know who
                        you are or how you came up with
                        this fantastic story.  All I can
                        say is, you've made my Son's day.
                        You can talk to him till the cows
                        come home.  He listens to, people
                        like you.
 

           22 INT. HALLWAY - MORNING 

              Lisa strides towards the exit.  Will is after her.

                                  WILL
                        He's kinda' frazzled right now.
                               (rushing to keep up)
                        Where are you going?

              Lisa is beginning to founder.

                                  LISA
                        I don't know, I just need help.

                                  WILL
                        I thought I was...

              Will catches her and grabs her arms.  ZAP!  A BLUE AURA
              outlines and energizes around Lisa.  Will jerks his hands
              away.  It's as if he's been repelled by a jolt of electricity.

              Lisa is startled.

              Will looks at his hands.  At Lisa.  He can't believe it!

                                  WILL
                               (continuing)
                        I'm OK.

              Lisa laughs nervously.  She wants to touch him.  Apologize
              somehow.  She steps closer.

                                  WILL
                               (continuing; backs up
                                a step)
                        I really am OK.

              Lisa stops.  Now Will takes a step closer.  Their hands raise
              high in silent agreement.  They will keep their distance.

                                  WILL
                               (continuing)
                        Who the hell are you?

              Lisa focuses.

                                  LISA
                        Do you have a car?

              Will just nods.

              Lisa strides toward the door.

                                  LISA
                               (continuing)
                        I have to meet someone.

              Will just stands there.  He's confused.

                                  LISA
                               (continuing; turning
                                back)
                        I thought you wanted to help me?
 

           23 INT/EXT. WILL'S CAR - MORNING 

              Lisa and Will sit in the VW.  POV of Tomatoes Cafe across the
              busy street.

              Among the PEDESTRIANS, Three NURSES, their backs to Will and
              Lisa, approach the Restaurant.

              Lisa gets out and stares at the Nurses.  Will gets out the
              driver's side.

                                  WILL
                        What?

                                  LISA
                               (pointing)
                        There!

              Will doesn't understand.  He turns to the Nurses.

                                  LISA
                               (continuing)
                        Please don't!

              The Nurses are about to enter the Cafe.

              Will, not believing what he sees, takes a few steps into the
              street toward the Nurses.

              A CAR screeches to a stop behind him.

              Now he sees!

              Lisa ducks down behind the car.  Hands over her head, she's
              hyperventilating.

              One of the Nurses stops and turns in Will's direction.  It's
              LISA!

              Will spins to avoid detection and gets back to the curb.

              The Car takes off, its horn blaring.

              The Other Lisa doesn't see him.  Will turns again to take a
              longer look.

                                  WILL
                        My God!

              Will panics when he doesn't see Lisa.  He looks back in time
              to see the Other Lisa enter the Cafe.

                                  WILL
                               (continuing;
                                searching)
                        Lisa!

              Will scrambles to the far side of his car.  Lisa is huddled,

              Will rushes to her side.  He hesitates in touching her.  He
              summons courage and puts his hand out to comfort her.
              Thinking twice, he withdraws his hand.
 
 
 
 

                                   ACT THREE
 

           24 INT. WOMAN'S WASHROOM - AFTERNOON 

              Close on Lisa.  She is splashing water on her face.  She
              lifts her head and looks deep into the mirror.  She exhales.
              The glass doesn't mist.  Again, harder.  A slight haze covers
              the glass.

              Will is sitting on the toilet beside her.

                                  WILL
                        How're doing?

              Lisa gives him a halfhearted smile.  He grimaces, stupid
              question.  He tries a lighter approach.

                                  WILL
                               (continuing)
                        Holy!...You!

                                  LISA
                        What!

                                  WILL
                        You know, you must know!

                                  LISA
                        What!

                                  WILL
                        Who won the Super Bowl, next
                        January!

                                  LISA
                               (deadpan)
                        Sorry, I don't follow basketball.

              Will stands.  He studies her in the mirror.

                                  WILL
                        She's not that bad looking, for a,
                        you know, a younger, immature
                        woman.

                                 LISA
                        Well, next time, I'll introduce
                        you.

              They bother consider.

                                  TOGETHER
                        No!

              Will looks at her.  He is smitten.  He raises his hand to
              touch her.

                                  LISA
                        You're getting too close.

                                  WILL
                        You'd zap me again?

                                  LISA
                        Will, I don't think I can take
                        much more.

                                  WILL
                        Lisa, we'll figure this out.

              Lisa smiles.  The attraction is mutual.
